Moss, lichens, and black streaks are not only unsightly on a roof, they trap and hold moisture causing accelerated decay of your roofing materials. Cleaning your roof by removing moss and mildew is much more economical than waiting to repair the roof itself. Why go to the expense of replacing the entire roof, prior to it's scheduled re-roof, when you can clean and restore to near original color. Also, you only have to pay for those areas that need maintenance, not an entire roof. Most roofs have a few trouble spots that can be cleaned in one day. Larger roofs , steeper pitches, and heavily mossed or streaked roofs may take longer, but it is still more reasonable to clean your roof to prolong the life than having a roof replaced.
Below are photos of one house that had trouble areas with black streaking as well as an area with roof moss build-up. We sucessfully removed both and retruned the roof to near original color. Above the photo on the left shows significant black streaking on the garage roof. The photo to the right shows moss growth that is very visible to those who visit. If you notice, a small section on the right side of each roof has been cleaned and restored to near original color. The left side has been treated to kill moss and algae but not cleaned, in the above photos.

Above is a photo of the same house prior to roof cleaning the right half. To the right is a photo of the roof completely cleaned of all moss and treated with a preventative solution that will inhibit future moss growth.

Rather than tear off and replace this roof, we applied a cleaning solution and washed the roof clean of the black streaks that were discoloring the roofing. Once the roof has been cleaned, we then apply an inhibiting agent which is released over time to stop future algae and moss growth. Repeating this application every couple of years should prevent the return of your moos and algae problems, at a fraction of the cost of replacing. Remember that replacing the shingles is a short term remedy to a long term problem.
